Iran slams Riyadh's continued attacks on Yemen

TEHRAN (Tasnim) Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham on Tuesday strongly denounced the recent bombardment of Yemeni residential areas and bazaars by Saudi jet fighters, which has claimed dozens of lives.

"Saudi Arabia's attacks on (Yemen's) infrastructures and civilian targets, and the killing and injuring of civilians, are blatant violations of human rights," Afkham stressed.

She further urged international bodies, particularly the United Nations, to intensify their efforts to put an immediate end to the attacks and help the innocent people of Yemen.

Afkham called on the UN to tap into its full capacity to ensure the health and security of civilians, women and children in particular.

She once again reaffirmed Tehran's readiness to immediately dispatch humanitarian aid to the people of war-hit Yemen and provide treatments for the injured.

Her remarks came in reaction to Saudi fighter jets' Monday attacks on a livestock market in Lahij governorate, south of Yemen, which killed 23 civilians and injured many more.

Earlier on Sunday evening, Saudi warplanes had pounded residential areas in the town of al-Mu'alla in Yemen's southwestern Aden Province, killing at least 7 people.

Another two people lost their lives in airstrikes carried out against the al-Zamah district in the northwestern Yemeni city of Sa'ada.

Saudi Arabia has been bombarding different areas in Yemen since March 26 without any authorization from the United Nations and heedless of international calls for the cessation of its deadly airstrikes against the impoverished country.

According to a civil coalition monitoring Saudi Arabia's crimes, over 3050 people, including 722 children and 532 women, have been killed during more than 100 days of Saudi-led military strikes on the Arab country. More than 8,000 others have been injured in the attacks, including 581 women and 766 children.
