Iran nuclear negotiators consider monitoring body with EU participation

Creating a commission comprising the P5+1 group members, the European Union and Tehran to monitor the implementation of the Iran nuclear deal is only one of the options being discussed by the negotiators, a senior source in a Western delegation told Sputnik on Monday.

VIENNA (Sputnik) Some media outlets reported earlier that the P5+1 group, comprising Russia, the United States, Britain, China, France and Germany, and Iran have agreed to create of a commission to monitor the implementation of the deal.

"It is one of the options, but nothing has been agreed yet," the source said.

Another source close to the negotiating process told Sputnik that the sticking point is that the United States does not want a EU representative becoming a member of such a commission.

The Austrian capital of Vienna is currently hosting talks on Tehrans nuclear program. The deadline for reaching an agreement is July 7. By that time, the negotiators have to reach a comprehensive deal, securing the peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear activities in exchange for sanctions relief.
In April, the negotiators and Iran reached a political framework deal on the issue during talks in Switzerland.
