Saudi offenders indicted for harassment of Iranian pilgrims: Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular Affairs announced that the two Saudi officers who harassed two Iranian teenagers at Jeddah Airport were indicted for malversation and molestation.

"The trial session of these two offending officers was held this morning in the 7th branch of Jeddah's criminal court," Qashqavi said on Monday, according to the IRIB.

He went on to say that during the session, which was also attended by Zare, Iran's consul general in Jeddah, the attorney-general's indictment was read.

"The two criminal officers were charged with malversation, failure to perform their duties as police officers, and committing obscene criminal offenses," he added, declaring that the attorney-general has demanded death sentence for the two criminals.

The Iranian official further announced that the next session of their trial is set to be held next Wednesday, where the two officers' attorneys will defend their clients.

Qashqavi also referred to the measures taken by Saudi officials in trying the officers, saying that the Saudi side seems to be "serious" in this regard.

Back in April, the two Iranian teenage boys were harassed by two Saudi officers at Jeddah's King Abdulaziz International Airport when the offenders took them away during body search, citing suspicion.

Iran suspended the Umrah (minor) Hajj pilgrimage in the wake of the molestation, saying that the situation will be normalized once Riyadh hands out the maximum punishment to the offenders.
