Iran mounts 4k-hp, 5k-hp diesel engines on vessels
TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior Iranian official announced that the country has installed 4,000hp and 5,000hp diesel engines on its vessels.

"The Marine Industries Organization has plans and a roadmap in diesel (engine production) and we have used four industrial diesel engines in the country with the power of 900hp, 2,000hp, 4,000hp and 5,000hp in the sea and have mounted the 4,000hp and 5,000hp diesel engines on vessels," Head of the Marine Industries Organization of Iran Amir Rastegari said, addressing a forum in Tehran on Tuesday.

Restegari did not mention if the engines have been mounted on civilian or military vessels, but further added that a 900hp diesel engine is now being tested on Iran's speedboats.

"We are also producing three national diesel engines for the railway and will deliver the first national diesel engine to the railway (company) by the end of this year (March 19)," Rastegari said.

The Iranian experts have made huge progress in building diesel engines.

In February, Iranian Trade Minister Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh called for increasing exports of Iran-made diesel engines, given the rising demand in the international market.

He expressed the hope that exports of Iran-made diesel engines would be expanded in the near future.

Stressing that close to 50% of cars in Europe have diesel engines, Nematzadeh called for the entry of industrialists into manufacturing diesel engine vehicles.

Iran Khodro Company (IKCO) diesel engine production line has been designed and developed by Iranian experts.

Increasing the fuel economy by 30 percent, decreasing emissions by 40 percent, higher durability of the parts and lower maintenance costs are the advantages of this engine over similar gas-fuelled ones.

Due to its common parts with EF7 engine and its compatibility with euro V emission standards, IKCO diesel engine would be eco-friendly and economical.

This 16 valve 1500cc turbocharged engine produces 120 hp of power. Its torque reaches 256 Nm and it sips only 5.5 liters of fuel per 100 Km. It takes 10.4 seconds for a Samand with this engine to go from zero to 100 km/h. The figure is 12.4 for a Samand with EF7 engine.

IKCO EFD performance is so high that makes is competitive in European markets. The engine meets euro V emission standards and could be mounted on C and D segment sedans manufactured for Iran market.

Irans first national diesel engine for passenger cars was unveiled at Iran Khodro Powertrain Co. (IPCO) on November 17, 2009. This 90Kw diesel engine is considered as one of the most powerful ones in its kind worldwide.
