Energy ministry urged to engage private sector

TEHRAN May 24(Shana)--First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri has called on Ministry of Energy to engage the private sector in its projects.

Jahangiri said the Energy Ministry is obligated by the government to award as many water supply and power generation projects as possible to the private sector.

The first vice-president made the remarks in a meeting organized to discuss financing of energy ministry projects and simultaneous generation of electricity and water supply in southern coasts.

Minister of Energy Hamid Chitchian said in the meeting that water desalination projects could help supply drinking water to residents of southern coasts.
Iran is facing serious water shortage this year mainly due to low precipitation and water-consuming farming methods.
