WASHINGTON (Sputnik) � US President Barack Obama signed into law legislation that will require congressional review of any final nuclear agreement between the P5+1 group of countries and Iran, White House said in a statement on Friday.

�The President signed into law� the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act of 2015, which amends the Atomic Energy Act to provide for congressional review and oversight of a potential comprehensive nuclear deal with Iran,� the statement stated.

On May 14, 2015, US Congress passed the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act of 2015, which gives lawmakers 60 days to fully review any final nuclear deal with Iran.
During the 60-day review period, the President will not be able to waive or suspend congressional sanctions currently in place against Iran.

On April 2, 2015, Iran and the P5+1 group of countries, comprising the United States France, Russia, China and the United Kingdom plus Germany, agreed in Lausanne on a framework for an agreement on Iran's nuclear program.

The deadline for the final comprehensive agreement is set for June 30, 2015.
