Iran appeals for immediate dispatch of emergency supplies to Yemen

Tehran, May 4, IRNA Following deterioration of humanitarian situation in Yemen, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham on Monday appealed to the international community for immediate dispatch of emergency supplies to Yemen.

'Siege of Yemen runs counter to International humanitarian law, on one hand, and the Saudi government created obstacle for shipment of the emergency supplies and drinking water, on the other, have deteriorated the humanitarian situation in light of severe shortage of most dire medical supplies in Yemen,' said Afkham, expressing deep concern over the creation of a human catastrophe.

The Foreign Ministry spokesperson reiterated that Iran is preparing a report on its numerous attempts to assist the highly oppressed Yemeni citizens and the Saudi sabotage to block the path for their entry that will be presented to various international organizations.

'Simultaneously, the Islamic Republic will continue efforts aimed at forwarding emergency supplies to Yemen in collaboration with the International Committee of the Red Cross,' she added.

Meanwhile, Afkham condemned the usage of forbidden weapons by the Arab coalition against the Yemeni citizens that is confirmed by international organizations.

'Unfortunately Yemen has fallen prey to multilayer and perilous games played by a number of its neighbors and their international supporters, as well as the absence and silence of the unbiased media and humanitarian organizations, the true dimensions of the Saudi air raids and the war crimes perpetrated by the Saudi leaders and their regional allies in Yemen are not clearly reflected for the world public opinion,' she said.

The Saudis and their allies in this unjust war have ever since the beginning of their cruel airstrikes against the defenseless Yemeni nation on March 26, 2015, killed at least 3,000 Yemeni citizens, including thousands of women and children and made homeless many more thousands.
