Iran to construct Formula 1 circuit in Qeshm Island

Qeshm Island, May 3, IRNA Vice President and Head of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization Masoud Soltanifar said on Sunday that Iran has a plan to construct Formula 1 circuit in Qeshm Island.




He made the remarks during his recent visit to the Qeshm Island.

Iran has so many young people with an increasing tendency for driving. Formula 1 has a great future in Iran, the official added.

He said that Qeshm Island has the potential to become one of the world's most beautiful formula 1 destination.

Iran previously has announced plans to build a Formula 1 circuit in Parand City, 35 kilometres (28 miles) south of capital Tehran.

Formula One has been welcomed in locations in the Middle and Far East, such as Malaysia, Abu Dhabi and Bahrain.

Qeshm is the largest island in the Persian Gulf, with rocky coastlines that protects a mountainous and often beautiful interior. The coast is dotted with small villages and towns. Qeshm Island is free duty zone. The island is very long approximately 150kms from east to west.
