Commander: IRGC monitoring enemies' moves in Persian Gulf

TEHRAN (FNA)- Commander of the IRGC's Second Naval Zone General Ali Razmjou underlined Iran's constant watch on the movements made by the trans-regional states' fleets of warships in the regional waters, specially in the Persian Gulf.

"Not even a single move in the Persian Gulf is hidden to the eagle eyes of the IRGC's Naval forces," General Razmjou said in Bushehr province on Wednesday.

"All the movements made in these waters are fully monitored by the IRGC Navy real-time," reiterated the General.

He underlined that the IRGC Navy has intelligence superiority over all movements in the Persian Gulf and it is defending the Iranian sea borders with full preparedness.

"The IRGC's Second Naval Zone has the most advanced defense weapons systems and technical equipment ," General Razmjou added.

On Monday, IRGC Navy Commander Rear Admiral Ali Fadavi underlined the IRGC's preparedness and power to repel all types of threats posed by submarines and giant warships.

"Based on security and defensive strategies, we have the necessary capabilities to repel different threats in marine and geopolitical fields in the Persian Gulf and the surrounding areas," Fadavi said, addressing the Iranian people in the Southern city of Abadan.

"We have exercised defensive measures against possible large-scale threats that could be posed by warships and giant cruisers at different levels of coast-to-sea, sea-to-coast, air-to-sea, ground-to-air and subsurface confrontation," he added.

The IRGC was appointed to defend the Persian Gulf security in 2008. The Iranian army has been tasked with controlling the Sea of Oman and the Caspian Sea, while the full responsibility for defending the Persian Gulf security has been entrusted to the IRGC.

The Iranian Army Navy and the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Navy have tight cooperation in controlling the country's waterways and protecting Iran's interests inside territorial waters and in the high seas.

Iran's naval power has even been acknowledged even by the foes. In a Sep. 11, 2008 report, the Washington Institute for the Near East Policy said that in the two decades since the Iraqi imposed war on Iran, the Islamic Republic has excelled in naval capabilities and is able to wage unique asymmetric warfare against larger naval forces.

According to the report, Iran's Navy has been transformed into a highly motivated, well-equipped, and well-financed force and is effectively in control of the world's oil lifeline, the Strait of Hormuz.
