Zarif says P5+1 realize Sanctions, nuclear deal cannot go together

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said that significant progress was made at the latest round of nuclear talks between Tehran and the P5+1 group of international mediators.

LAUSANNE (Sputnik) Negotiators inthe Iran nuclear deal have realized that sanctions and agreements do not go together, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said Saturday atthe nuclear talks inLausanne, Switzerland.

"I believe they have realized sanctions, pressure and an agreement will not go together," Zarif told journalists ata press conference.

The Iranian foreign policy chief stressed Tehran has made a "political decision" towork towardan agreement ina dignified manner.

"I believe our negotiating partners also need tomake this decision," Zarif said.

Significant progress was made atthe latest roundof nuclear talks betweenTehran and the P5+1 group ofinternational mediators, which may lead tosigning ofthe final agreement, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said Saturday.

"We had excellent meetings, and we made a lot ofprogress We discussed all the issues that need tobe resolved," Zarif told reporters.

"I think we can onfact make the necessary progress tobe able tosolve all the problems and tostart writing them downin the text that will be the final agreement," he added.

Iran's nuclear program has been a matter ofconcern fora number ofWestern countries, which kept accusing Tehran ofdeveloping a nuclear weapon underthe guise ofa peaceful program. Iran, inturn, repeatedly stated that the country's nuclear activities are aimed purely atmeeting growing energy needs.

Tehran is currently intalks withthe P5+1 group ofinternational mediators comprising Russia, the United States, China, France, the United Kingdom and Germany, inan attempt tofind a comprehensive deal, ensuring a peaceful nature ofthe Iranian nuclear program.

A new roundof Iranian nuclear talks kicked offin Lausanne onThursday and expected toconclude onSunday.
