US Secretary of State John Kerry is expected to meet with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Monday, March 16 to discuss the Tehran's nuclear program.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) A meeting betweenUS Secretary ofState John Kerry and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, planned forSunday, has been rescheduled toMonday, March 16, ahead ofa crucial roundof talks onIran's disputed nuclear program.
The US Secretary ofState is expected tomeet withZarif at08:00 a. m. local time (07:00 GMT) onMonday, withthe meeting being the latest ina two-year effort toensure that Tehran's nuclear program serves a peaceful purpose and is not a cover forthe development ofnuclear weapons.
On Saturday, Kerry said the P5+1 group ofinternational negotiators reached some progress intalks onIran's disputed nuclear program.
The P5+1 group, which includes the United States, Russia, China, France, Germany and the United Kingdom, finished another roundof negotiations withTehran inthe Swiss town ofMontreux inthe first week ofMarch.
Iran and the P5+1 need toreach a political framework agreement byMarch 24. Despite certain progress noted bythe P5+1 delegates throughoutthe pastweeks, Obama has extended sanctions againstIran, which the West suspects ofdeveloping nuclear weapons, intothe next year.
