Iran, Germany ink cooperation agreement on medical issues

TEHRAN (Tasnim) Iran and Germany signed an agreement to cooperate in certain medical fields, including joint efforts to provide support for patients with rare diseases and the disabled.

The agreement was signed between Irans State Welfare Organization and Rare Diseases Foundation and the German rare disease firm, Centogene, on the sidelines of the 6th International Meeting on Pulmonary Rare Diseases and Orphan Drugs and welcome in Milano, Italy.




Explaining the agreement, Ali Davoudian, the managing director of Rare Diseases Foundation of Iran, said that according to the trilateral agreement, Centogene will provide its support for the foundations efforts to indigenize genetic experiments in Iran.

Earlier in a meeting with Davoudian on Tuesday, Germanys ambassador to Tehran pledged cooperation with the Iranian patients who apply for visa to get medical treatment in the European country.

We will try to improve and accelerate the (Iranian) patients access to the (German) embassy and visa issuance, he said.

The ambassador, however, explained that granting visa comes within the purview of Berlin and the embassy cannot act independently, but promised to make efforts in that regard.

For his part, Davoudian proposed the idea of establishing a technical task force to facilitate visa restriction for the Iranian patients.
