Kharrazi: Cutting off financial, military aid to Daeash vital to stability of region
Tehran, Oct 30, IRNA - Head of the Foreign Policy Strategic Council Kamal Kharrazi said on Thursday that the most important move to restore stability to the region is cutting off financial and military aid to Daesh Takfirii terrorist group.
Kharrazi made the remarks in a meeting with the visiting UN Deputy Secretary General Jan Elliason in Tehran on Thursday.
There is no doubt that this action would help resolve Syria crisis and also restore stability to the entire region, he said.

In the meeting, the two sides discussed various issues such as Iraq, Syria, regional stability, nuclear talks and the significant role of the United Nations to this end.

Iran has supported the Iraqi people from the early stages of their confrontation with Daesh and shared in their victories over the terrorist groups.

On Syrian development, Kharrazi said the rootcause of the problem was the wrong analysis and approach o certain countries inside and outside the region.

These countries shipped military supplies to opponents and helped them in thier attempts to topple the Syrian government but their policy led to growth of terrorist groups, devastation of cities and a large number of civilain casualties, Kharrazi said.

Such a wrong approach led to formation of the Daesh terrorist group which brought some parts of Iraq and Syria under its control and even pose threat to other countries, he said.

The two sides also discussed the structure of UN Security Council and the weakness of the organization in dealing with international issues and called for an urgent amendment to its structure.

Elliason who has traveled to Tehran from Baghdad praised the significant role of Iran in backing the Iraqi government and people and called for continuation of such a role.

He also expressed concern about increase in the activities of terrorist groups in Syria and Lebanon and said political dialogue is the only way out of these problems.

Iran's stability among other countries of the region is very noteworthy, he said.

During his stay in Iran, Elliason conferred with a number of Iranian officials on regional developments.
