Iran-Russia share security interests: Russian official
Moscow, Oct 21, IRNA A senior official at the Russian Ministry of Defense has said Tehran and Moscow enjoy common security interests and are keen on cooperation in the field.

Member of Russian Defense Ministry Public Council Igor Korotchenko told IRNA that Iran is a key player in the Middle East region and can take effective steps to resolve major regional crises.

Referring to the positive role Iran played in settlement of crises in Iraq and Afghanistan, Korotchenko said that the Iranian peace efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan helped restore stability in the two countries.

Noting that Iran is currently helping regional states overcome the problem of terrorist groups, Daesh (ISIS) in particular, the Russian official said irresponsible acts of the Western governments, those made by the United States in particular, have jeopardized security of the Middle East.

Korotchenkov stressed both Iran and Russia are against meddling of foreign countries in internal affairs of the Middle Eastern states.
