Commander: Air Force ready to defend Iran's territorial integrity

TEHRAN (FNA)- The Iranian Air Force Deputy Chief Liaison Officer, General Aziz Nasirzadeh, described Air Force superiority as a main component of Iran's high military power, and said the Iranian Air Force is completely ready to defend the country's territorial integrity.

"Today in the new wars, Air Force superiority is assessed as an important element, without which no country can succeed in defense fields. And today the Iranian Air Force defends the country's territorial integrity with complete preparedness and more powerfully than the past using the experiences of the 8-year-long holy defense (Iraqi-imposed war in the 1980s) and following the self-sufficiency measures taken (in the defense industries)," Nasirzadeh said in Tehran on Sunday.

Meantime, he reiterated the deterrent nature of Iran's military power, and said effective diplomatic talks in the international circles need a powerful military backup as political power cannot be created without military might.

In relevant remarks in February, Iranian Air Force Commander Brigadier General Hassan Shah Safi announced that his forces had focused all their power and energy on building fighter jets as they believe that future wars are fought and won in the sky.

It is obvious that future wars will be in the sky with massive air and missile raids; therefore, the Air Force has adopted a new approach and focused all its internal power on building fighter jets in a self-driven, but organized way, Shah Safi said, addressing foreign states military attachs in Iran.

He said that the Iranian Air Forces efforts have already resulted in the building of Saeqeh (Thunderbolt) fighter jets.

Yet, the Air Force commander reiterated the defensive doctrine of the Islamic Republic, saying Tehran had the narrowest military budget among the regional countries.

Shah Safi blasted the US officials for threatening Iran militarily, and said, We are sure that the Iranian Armed Forces military capability has discouraged the enemies from even thinking of invasion.

In recent years, Iran has made great achievements in the defense sector and gained self-sufficiency in essential military hardware and defense systems.

The country has repeatedly made it clear that its military might is merely based on the state's defense doctrine of deterrence and that it poses no threat to other countries.
