Only six Iranian airports capable of meeting expenses

Shiraz, Sept 19, IRNA Head of the countrys Airports Company says only six out of the 54 active airports in the country are capable of meeting their current expenses.
Mohammad Ali Ilkhani added that at present 48 airports in the country are loss making and the Airports Company has paid 4000 billion rials (around $14mln) for their low performance last year.
He pointed to the status of Ayatollahi Airport in Larestan, 378 kilometers to the south of Shiraz in Fars province, as one of the notable airports in the country and said due to taking advantage of standardized infrastructures that airport is one of the most efficeintly equipped airports in Iran.

Larestan International Airport enjoys a specific status in air transportation and its 3,200 meter long, 60 meter wide runway is capable of receiving 310 Airbus planes.

He announced the readiness of the Airports Company for the extension of the runway of Larestan Airport for accepting wide body planes and said if necessary, it could be promoted to the extent that it could receive even more wide body planes for Hajj flights.
