AEOI chief blasts US unipolar approach to global developments

TEHRAN (FNA)- Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi lashed out at the US for its unipolar and hegemonic approach towards developments in the world.

After the collapse of former Soviet Union, the US sought to bolster the pillars of unipolar system in the world through expansion of military power and controlling global media, Salehi said, addressing the tenth international energy conference in Tehran on Wednesday.

He criticized the US unipolar approach in the international community and said that the Americans seek to dominate whole world to attain their sinister goals.

Salehi referred to Iran's important role in the region and the world, and said it is impossible to ignore Iran's significant role in regional and global equations and the world energy supply security.

Iran enjoys a geopolitics and geostrategic status in the Middle East region and also play significant role in global developments, he said.

Iran is the missing ring connecting Central Asia to Europe and the Caspian Sea littoral states with the countries in the Persian Gulf region, Salehi said.

In relevant remarks in April, Iranian Vice-President for Parliamentary Affairs Majid Ansari condemned the US for its policy of sowing discord among Muslims, and said Washington is replacing its strategy of military invasion with the policy of divide and rule to maintain its hegemony in the region.

"Yesterday (in the past), the enemies of Islam, specially the US, looted the Islamic countries by launching military attacks against them but today they have resorted to the policy of stirring hatred (and division) and irrational wrath among Islamic sects," Ansari said, addressing a gathering in Tehran.

He referred to the situation in Syria as an instance of Washington's policy of fomenting sectarian strife among Muslims, and underlined that the crimes committed by a group of Muslims against another group in Syria are the result of the US attempts to create rift among Muslims which, he described as a major threat.

Ansari said that the enemies also make use of the media to attain their ominous goal of sowing discord among Muslims.
