Irans President Hassan Rouhani will pay an official visit to Russia to attend the upcoming summit of the Caspian Sea littoral states.
The Iranian president is scheduled to travel to Russia on September 29.

The 4th summit of the Caspian Sea littoral states is scheduled to be held in the Russian city of Astrakhan in September 2014.

Iran, Russia, Kazakhstan, the Republic of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan are the littoral states of the Caspian Sea.

The Caspian Sea is the largest enclosed body of water by area, and is variously classed as the world's largest lake or a full-fledged sea.

The issue of the Caspian Seas legal regime has gained importance following the breakup of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) and the emergence of newly independent states.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif also plans to pay a day-long visit to Moscow on Friday.

Zarifs trip comes at the invitation of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

The Iranian and Russian foreign ministers will hold talks on the latest developments in bilateral relations and regional issues.

Irans Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said in July that Tehran and Moscow share a common stance on many regional issues, particularly the developments in Iraq and Syria as well as the necessity to fight terrorists in the region.
