Around 12,000 citizens over age of 100 live in Iran
Tehran, Aug 21, IRNA - The head of the secretariat of the National Council for the Elderly said recently that 11,722 senior citizens over the age of 100 live in Iran.
Sadeq Rostami said according to statistics in 2011, over 6 million Iranian citizens over the age of 60 reside in Iran and Tehran, Alborz and Semnan provinces have the highest number of citizens followed by Gilan, Markazi, Mazandaran and East Azerbaijan provinces respectively, ?Tehran Times? wrote in its Thursday?s edition of the newspaper.
However, Sistan and Baluchestan Province holds the least number of senior citizens followed by Hormozgan and Boushehr Provinces.

Over 8.2 percent of Irans population is considered old, Rostami said with grave concern, adding that the figure shows how Irans population is rapidly aging, an issue that he said shouldnt be easily brushed away.
