TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran's Army Commander Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan stressed the vital importance of expanding military cooperation among the world armies to strengthen peace and tranquility worldwide, and announced his forces' readiness to move to that end.


Speaking at a meeting with military attachs in Tehran on Sunday evening, Brigadier General Pourdastan underlined that Irans army is trying to have appropriate relations with armies of friendly countries and is trying to maintain peace and security in the region and the world by holding joint meetings with others states' armies.

The Iranian commander reiterated that security and tranquility can be materialized through enhancement of international and regional cooperation and no government or nation can provide its own security alone.

In mid-December, Deputy Commander of the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF) Brigadier General Alireza Barkhor said that Iran and other regional countries are powerful enough to safeguard peace and tranquilly in the region needless of the trans-regional powers.

Earlier this month, Senior Iranian and Omani commanders in a meeting in Masqat underlined the need for the expansion of mutual military cooperation between the two countries.

During the meeting in Oman's capital , Deputy Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces for Operational Affairs Brigadier General Mostafa Salami and Chief of Staff of Oman's Armed Forces Major General Ahmed bin Hares Al-Nabhani discussed the bilateral military ties, specially the Fourth joint Iran-Oman military drills conducted in the Sea of Oman a few days ago.

The two sides pointed to the important status of Iran and Oman in the region and their significant roles in maintaining security of the vessels and oil tankers passing through the Sea of Oman and the Strait of Hormuz.

Also earlier this month, Iranian and Pakistani naval forces began their joint drills in the Eastern waters of the Strait of Hormuz with the message of peace and friendship.
