Ukraine urges lifting Iran sanctions over Tehran

Ukraine has called for lifting international and unilateral sanctions on Iran over its nuclear energy program.

The remarks were made during the meeting of Irans Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Ukrainian opposite number Leonid Kozhara, on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.

During the Friday meeting, the top Ukrainian diplomat threw his countrys weight behind the nuclear deal clinched between Iran and six major world powers in the Swiss city of Geneva last November.

Kozhara said Iran has a legal right to use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes and expressed hope Tehran and the Sextet would proceed with negotiations to reach a final nuclear agreement.

Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council -- the United States, France, Britain, Russia and China -- plus Germany inked an interim deal on Irans nuclear energy program in Geneva, Switzerland, on November 24, 2013. The deal came into force on January the 20th.

The Ukrainian minister further expressed his countrys willingness to strengthen relations with Iran to serve mutual interests, saying Kiev is prepared to hold a joint economic commission session with Tehran in the near future.

Zarif, for his part, underlined the need to tap into both countries potentialities to bolster economic, political and agricultural cooperation.

Earlier on Friday, the Iranian foreign minister said Tehran was determined to elaborate on its positions in the international arena during the 50th Munich Security Conference in Germany.
