Obama warns Congress for new sanctions against Iran

TEHRAN, Jan. 14 (MNA) US president, Barack Obama, has urged US lawmakers to avoide any new sanctions on Iran after agreements with Tehran for a six-month interim nuclear deal to be implemented on January 20.

According to RFERL, Obama said on January 13 in Washington that the interim agreement with Iran offers a door of opportunity.

His remarks come as some US lawmakers continue to call for new sanctions against Iran, despite warnings they could doom the diplomatic process.

Lawmakers in Washington that agree to impose fresh sanctions against Iran say the agreement reached during the weekend to begin implementing the interim nuclear deal on January 20 makes it harder for those who want further sanctions to attract support.

Iran has warned that it would back away from the negotiations on a comprehensive nuclear deal if any new sanctions are imposed.

US State Department officials met in Washington on January 13 with lawmakers to discuss the diplomatic track with Iran.

Obama also has invited the entire Senate Democratic assembly to the White House on January 15 for a discussion that is expected to include the issue of diplomacy with Iran.
