Why does Iranian nation distrust the US?

Developments and political atmosphere in Iran once again shifted the focus of relations and talks with the US into daily issue of the political and news circles in the country. Two different viewpoints are now on the edge following diplomatic movements of Iranian foreign policy officials. A group of people believe that relations with the US is the key to current problems. They believe that through normalization of ties with the US, efforts should be made to lift tyrannical sanctions on Iran. A number of other people, however, believe that the US has not undergone any fundamental and tangible change, so talks with it under present conditions would have no outcome for Iranian people but harm. Neither would the US show of talks with Iran have any other result, according to the group. Americans' policy of carrot and stick against the Islamic Republic of Iran would continue. The individuals say the key to country's problems is strengthening national and endemic economy.
Meanwhile, Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, as the main body steering macro policies of the country, has, while candidly announcing no opposition to "Heroic Flexibility" as getting subject to many unjustified interpretations notified in his latest stance against the diplomatic organ's movements and diversified analyses that he does not trust the still yet.

The explicit announcement of the notion should be taken as an address to the theoretical and practical efforts of the domestic and foreign officials in chare of political issues. He has also raised new subjects on reasons of the distrust.

So, in this piece of article efforts have been made to touch on a group of reasons of distrust of Muslim and revolutionary Iranian people in the American statesmen from the standpoint of the Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution:

1. US treasons in 60 years of engagement with Iranian government

The US' engagement with Iranian governments even before the 1979 Islamic Revolution and with such governments as Mosaddegh, whom the US considered as its own friends in the world and trusted them, has born no fruit but treason. How can one trust a government, whose record in Iran has been nothing but treason and crime? Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei considers one of the reasons of Iranian people's distrust in the US as its dirty record and background. The Ayatollah says:

That's for 60 years from August 1953 onwards -- that officials of the country have been dealt a blow whenever trusting Americans. Once Mosaddegh trusted Americans, relying on them. He considered them his friend. The August 1953 event came about. The location of the coup was known to Americans and the agent of the coup came to Tehran with suitcase full of money, distributing them among the hooligans to stage the coup. He was an American. Americans themselves did know the trick and plot, admitting to it. Then they brought the tyrannical Pahlavid regime to dominate the country for long years. They formed intelligence organ, SAVAK. They imprisoned campaigners, tortured them. These all belong to those eras.

2. Iran's announcement as axis of evil a response to optimism of certain Iranian officials

After Islamic Revolution certain governments trusted the US out of optimism. They welcomed the other party under the title of policy of dtente. The US government, however, named Iran the axis of evil in response. Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, while referring to trust of the government of reforms to Americans, saying Americans' insulting response to the Iranian government gesture is one of the reasons the US can not be trusted. He says:

After revolution, Iranian officials trusted Americans once out of their optimism. On the other hand, policy of the US government put Iran in the axis of evil. You are the ones doing mischief in the world; you wage war; plunder nations; support the Zionist regime; suppress and dominate the rising nations wherever there is Islamic Awakening Movement and pit them against each other. Evil goes to you. That deserves you.

They allege Iran of being mischievous. That's a big insult. Wherever they are trusted, this is the case. They should show good will. The topic of talks does not go with proposing talks under pressure. The path to pressure and the path to talks are two separate ones. Iranian nation would never be ready to be under pressure and threat or talk with the party issuing threat and force against it. For what should we talk? What will be the result?

3. Americans' insincerity in repeatedly calling for talks with Iran

Americans have for times and again talked about negotiations with Iran. However, any time they proved they are not honest and follow other goals. The concrete experiences lodge reasons for impossibility to trust the US government as the Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution has pointed to. He says:

Recently, Americans once again spoke about talks. They repeatedly claim that the US is ready to hold direct talks with Iran. That's not something new. Americans have repeated the issue of talks in any juncture. Now, the new comers are now repeating the call for talks. They maintain the ball is now in Iran's courtyard. Ball is in your court. You are the one to be accountable. You are the one to say what talks along with pressure and intimidation does mean.

4. Lack of the US good intention in calling for talks with Iran

Contrast between words and deeds of Americans shows that they have never had any good intention. To this end, Americans also have not taken any action out of good will yet. So, Supreme Leader, emphasizing distrust in the US party, said:

Talks are to prove good will. You do ten works out of ill intention, then claim supporting talks? Do you think Iranian nation would accept that you have good intention? Of course, we do understand why Americans again repeat the issue of talks repeatedly. They raise the claim repeatedly in different languages. We do understand what the reason is. As Americans claim themselves, their Middle East policy has been defeated. The US' policies in the region have suffered defeat. So, as they claim, they need a tramp card to put forward. In their opinion, the tramp card is : TO drag the popular revolution of the Islamic Republic establishment to the negotiation table. They need this. They want to announce to the world they have good intention. No. We have not observed any good intention.

5. Contradiction between words and deeds of present US government in talks with Iran

The track record of the present US government also testifies lack of its honesty in words and deeds and its proposal of talks with Iran. Mr. Obama in person showed that can not be trusted. Elaborating on the conduct of the government, the Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution says:

Four years ago, when present US government started work, and when they repeated the same words, I announced that we do not make any prejudgment; we do not make early judgment. We look and see what's their action, then judge. Now after four years, what should be the judgment of Iranian people? They supported domestic plot; they helped the coup plotters; regionally, they built up military troops in such a country like Afghanistan under the pretext of fighting terrorism. They trampled upon rights of so many people. They ruined every thing. They are now cooperating with the same terrorists in Syria today. They support them. They employed exactly those terrorists that they could recruit anywhere in Iran. Their agents, their allies, the Zionist regime spies, assassinated scientists in the Islamic Republic of Iran. They were not ready to condemn the people explicitly; rather, they supported them. These are samples of their conduct. They used whatever sanctions they liked against Iranian nation. The sanctions were crippling. They explicitly claimed this and said they are crippling. Whom did you wish to cripple? Did you wish to cripple Iranian nation? Do you have good intention?

6. Juxtaposing the plan for talks with terror and pressure

The tactical and nonstrategic attitude of the US to talks and holding talks to call for talks would force White House to try to force Iran to sit on the negotiation table. So they threaten Iran to turn to talks. Outcome of such talks is predictable and would unveil their intention. These testify their not being worthy of being honest and trusted. To this end, the Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution has said:

Talks out of good intention under condition of equality and between the two parties who do not want to play a trick on the other party would become meaningful. Let's call it talks in tactical form, talks for the sake of talks, talks aiming to sell the gesture further supremacy over the world; such a talk would be deceitful. That would not be a real gesture. I am not a diplomat. I am revolutionary. I say such a word explicitly and sincerely. Diplomat says something, while it has another meaning. We express our own idea explicitly and sincerely. We do express our words strongly and forcefully. Talks would become meaningful when the other party shows his good will. When the other party does not show good will, you say it is force and talks. These do not go with each other. You want to point gun to Iranian nation, saying: Either talk or I will I will shoot at you. This is because you want to terrify Iranian nation. You should know Iranian nation would not succumb to such things.

7. US always uses its political ties for more influence

Extensive espionage of US in European countries lays seal of approval after three decades to the move of giving the title of `Den of Spies' to the country's embassy in Iran. There have been a group of people, who considered relations with the US would be helpful in providing further guarantees for national security with regards to the US' attack on Iraq at a time when they had diplomatic ties with the country; to this end, the Supreme Leader called the claims "vain", stressing that the US tries to enhance its influence in Tehran through its embassy. The Supreme Leader asserted: Diplomatic ties with US is harmful for us. Firstly, it would not diminish the US danger. The US attacked Iraq, while they had diplomatic ties; they had ambassadors; This had an ambassador there. That also had ambassador here. It is a relation which would not remove the maniac and domineering danger of any power. Secondly, relations with Americans have always been so; this is not the case today alone. It was a means to enhance influence among the strata that were suitable for treason in the country. Britons also were so. Britons' embassy had for long years been hub of ties with the lowly people of the nation. Those who were ready to sell themselves to the enemy. One of the jobs and duties of the embassies is this.

8. US aim of holding talks with Iran is finding a condition for espionage

Among other reasons for distrust in the US is the sabotage roles of the country's embassies in certain countries being rival to them. Such a background shows that while White House considers the Islamic Republic of Iran a hostile establishment and not its rival, it does not like ties and talks with it for any purpose other than harming it from inside.

Referring to the intention of the US, the Supreme Leader says:

Taking into consideration the events, taking place in China about 17 or 18 years ago that raised many hues and cries, the US was the axis and hub of management of the riots and discords. The people have such a vacuum in Iran. They need a base, while do not have. They want this. They need their spies and intelligence officers come and go freely without any concern, while having illegitimate ties with the lowly and traitor individuals. They do not have such a thing, however. The relations would provide this for them. Now the guys sit and gossip, making justifications. They claim relations with US is harmful for us. No, sir! Lack of any ties with US is helpful for us. The day ties with US is helpful, I will be the first one to order establishing the ties.

9. US' behavior towards Iran historically arrogantly, insulting

The US tone, when claiming to have talks, is arrogant and insulting in nature. This shows that the country's nature of hostility has not changed; that is something the late Imam said is the prerequisite for ties with US. The conduct of present US government should be interpreted in line with the phone call with our country's president as they called it a revolutionary move on party of Iranian party. On this basis, our dear leader said:

Those claiming talks with the US either are unfamiliar with the ABCs of politics or are not the least zealot. Either of the two is correct. While the enemy frowns this way, speaks so arrogantly, insults Iranian nation this way, while explicitly announcing that it wants to take action against the establishment and the country and its interests, a group of people here say humiliatingly: What should we do? Shall we go or not? Shall we approach them, talk to them, call them or beg them? This is an insult to the zeal and dignity of Iranian people. This is sign of lacking any zeal. This is not an instant of behaving out of curiosity. They try to show are somehow a politician while what they do is exactly in contrast to political understanding.

10. US does no accept Iranian nation's identity

What makes the tall wall of Iranians' distrust in the US taller, is that the US is the only country which has not yet officially recognized the revolutionary and Islamic identity of Iran, not explicitly referring to it. As Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution mentions, holding ties with such a country is foolish. Somewhere in his remarks, he says:

Iranian nation has a sort of aspirations and intentions. Anybody in the world, respecting the intentions and the Iranian nation and accepted the Islamic Republic establishment, is historically treated equally in talks and trade by Iranian nation. We used to have ties with the former Soviet Union as we did with Europe and whole the world. The problem with the US is that it does not admit our national and Islamic identity and explicitly makes such a claim. Why a group of those claiming to support politics and being wise do not understand this? That's a pity. Ties and talks with the government, which explicitly says it wants to act against the Islamic establishment and against cause of Iranian nation, while setting aside a budget to topple the system, would be a treason and a foolish act.

11. US still dreaming the Pahlavid era dynasty

On reasons of distrust in US, Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution comments on necessity of ties with all countries since long ago. He stresses that however, the US has not yet well understood development in Islamic Revolution, dreaming on domination over the country before the revolution. The Supreme Leader's assertions to this effect are fully clear:

"We are for talks worldwide. Since my presidency, I have always been stressing to the foreign ministry and different organs to go and talk with the governments and countries, while taking part in the global forums. I have always strongly recommended presidents succeeding me to travel and take part in talks, maintaining ties and exchange of visits. I believe basically in talks. But talks with whom and on what? Talks to reach a common point. The two sides should accept each other. There should be a middle point . They should talk to reach the mid point. The other party that does not at all accept you, faces your essence of existence, i.e. the Islamic Republic. What a sort of talks you can hold with it. Talks should be out of strength and power. Those thinking on talks under condition of threat and intimidation, announce their weakness with a loud voice. That's a very wrong gesture. The late Imam called for something more than talks. He said: If the US comes to its senses we will hold ties with it as well. This means that if it stops its arrogant nature, we will treat him fairly; otherwise, if it follows its own objectives inside Iran, we will treat it like other governments. The reality is not this, however. They see the dream of the Pahlavid era.

12.US wants ties with us to solve problem of Israel

The impediment to Iran's ties with US is the behavior of the country's government. What's the cause of distrust in the US is their complicated intentions and objectives. Whey they say we want ties with Iran to solve problem with the Zionist regime of Israel, that is the number one enemy of Iranian nation and the world Muslims, how can we trust them and go to the negotiation table and ties with them.

The US president's speech in meeting with Netanyahu, which followed phone call with our country's president, testifies the US' strategic approach to security of Israel, considering talks with Iran tactical. The assertion of the Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution in this connection is fully clear:

In the past three to four years, Americans claimed every now and then that they were willing to have ties with Iran! However, what's their goal of having the ties? They kept that as a secret up to recently when one of their statesmen let's say a stateswoman-- foolishly disclosed that what they prevented to say. She disclosed the fact in her speech. She said they want to hold ties with Iran. However, the precondition for the ties is Iran solving its problem with Israel firstly. Yes, the main problem lies here. We used to pinpoint this always. However, certain groups of people did not care. This is exactly the main problem of the US in having ties with any country, especially Islamic Iran, which is today the main base of campaign against Israel.
