Israeli forces shoot, injure Palestinian in Gaza

Israeli troops have opened fire on and seriously injured a Palestinian man in the besieged Gaza Strip.
On Monday, the Israeli troops injured the man, in his twenties, in Beit Lahiya in northern Gaza Strip.

According to Palestinian medical sources, the man was hit in the leg and abdomen.

The young man was taken first to Kamal Udwan hospital in Jabalia, located 4 kilometers north of Gaza City, then to al-Shifa hospital in the city.

Israeli sources also confirmed the incident.

On Saturday, Israeli military forces shot and injured a Palestinian farmer in the east of the city of Khan Yunis in the Gaza Strip.

On Friday, Israeli soldiers opened fire on Palestinians in Beit Hanoun, killing a young man and injuring several others.

On December 14, Israeli troops also targeted a Palestinian when he approached a so-called forbidden security zone east of Khan Yunis. The Palestinian subsequently succumbed to his injuries.

The Israeli military often targets Palestinians along the border with the Gaza Strip, which remains literally cut off from the outside world by a crippling Israeli blockade.

The siege has turned the densely-populated coastal sliver, home to some 1.7 million Palestinians, into the largest open-air prison in the world.

Tel Aviv has imposed a crippling blockade on the Gaza Strip since 2007.

According to Palestinian rights groups, over a dozen Palestinians were killed by Israeli forces in the first half of 2013 and nearly 1,800 Palestinians, including women and children, were seized during the same period.
