Iran ranks 20th in world’s 2013 science production

The Islamic Republic of Iran has ranked 20th in terms of science production in the world in 2013, according to the latest statistics released by Thomson Reuters.
According to the statistics, Iran has registered over 21000 articles on many remarkable international journals in 2013, IRNA reported.

Iran has allocated 1.57 % of the world science production since the beginning of 2013 that located the country in the announced rank by Thomson Reuters.

Thomson Reuters Corporation is a multinational media and information firm based in the United States. It was created by the Thomson Corporation's purchase of British-based Reuters Group in 2008.

In 2000, the Islamic Republic ranked 53rd in the world in terms of highly cited medical articles, but improved to the 23rd rank in 2011.

According to the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI), Iranian researchers and scientists published a total of 60,979 scientific articles in major international journals from 1999 to 2008.

President of the Islamic World Science Citation Center (ISC) Jafar Mehrad says Iran has ranked first in science production in the Middle East.

Meanwhile, Iran has also ranked first in the region and eighth in the world in science production in the field of nanotechnology, the secretary of Iran Nanotechnology Initiative Council (INIC) Saeed Sarkar had earlier announced.

According to Sarkar, more than 15,000 experts and researchers are currently working in the nanoscience domain in the country.

Iran has taken wide strides in science and technology in recent years despite US sanctions.

Iran's 2009 growth rate in science and technology was highest globally being 11 times faster than the world's average rate.
