TEHRAN (FNA)- Managing Director of Iran Aseman Airlines Abbas Rahmatiyan expressed the hope that the sanctions imposed against Tehran would be removed soon, reiterating that his airlines is planning to launch direct flights to North America and Canada.


Because Iran Aseman Airlines carried Iranian President (Hassan Rouhani) to New York, we have been asked to make efforts to conduct and increase (our) flights to Europe, North America and Canada, Rahmatiyan told FNA on Monday.

Rahmatiyan underlined that plans are underway to develop Aseman Airlines and expand its activities in most parts of the country, Middle East region and also increase its flights to the European destinations.

We have plans to use new airplanes for long-distance flights and in this regard we are thinking of long-range airplanes, he said, adding, The fleet of Iran Aseman Airlines now has 33 airplanes.

On Sunday, Iranian Deputy Road Minister for Aviation Affairs Ali Mohammad Nourian said Tehran and Washington are both interested in starting direct flights between the two countries, but they are waiting to first see the results of the talks between Iran and the Group 5+1 (the US, Russia, China, Britain and France plus Germany).

No practical measure has yet been taken in this regard and the issue has received attention just in words (and not action); yet, both sides have announced their willingness in this regard, Nourian said in Tehran.

The ground will be provided for such interactions (direct flights between Iran and the US) if the results of the talks with the G5+1 in Geneva are positive, he added.

Nourian also stressed that removal of the sanctions against Irans aviation industry, which will endanger peoples lives if not lifted soon, should be one of the outcomes of the Iran-powers talks.
