Iran pummels Lebanon 6-1 in Asia soccer tournament

National Iranian under-19 football team has trounced Lebanon in the preliminary round of the Asian Youth Football Championship.
The Iranian team, which defeated Tajikistan 2-0 in its opening encounter on October 8, pummeled the Lebanese side 6-1 in a game played at Shahid Bahonar Stadium in the southeastern Iranian city of Kerman, located 1,036 kilometers (643 miles) south of Tehran, on Thursday.

The hosts started the match with vigor and valor. Iran's Ali Fathian opened the scoring only two minutes into the match.

Lebanese football player Mohammad Saleh seized a golden opportunity a few minutes later, dribbled forward with the ball and was finally brought down inside Irans penalty area.

The referee signaled the award of a penalty kick by blowing the whistle and pointing to the penalty mark.

Saleh put the ball at the back of the net in the seventh minute to score Lebanons sole goal of the game.

Armin Sohrabian doubled Irans lead in the 21st minute, and Sardar Azmoun scored the third goal for Iran in the 36th minute. Milad Sarlak scored Irans fourth goal in the 46th minute.

Azmoun seized another golden opportunity in the 74th minute and put the ball into the back of the net to make it five for Iran.

Sohrabian netted the sixth goal for Iran in the 86th minute.

Iran takes on Saudi Arabia on Saturday.

The preliminary round of the Asian Youth Football Championship started in the Kerman on October 8, and will wrap up on October 12.

Young footballers from four Asian countries -- Iran, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and Tajikistan -- are competing in the sports event.
