Germany stages 5th Hafiz festival
Berlin, Oct 7, IRNA -- The East German city of Weimar which is a twin city of Shiraz, hosted the 5th Hafiz festival honoring the world renowned Iranian poet, according to IRNA.
Attended by German and Iranian officials, among them Weimars Mayor Stefan Wolf, the festival highlighted music performances as well as a carpet and handicraft exhibition.
Addressing the opening of the festivities, Weimars mayor said the
annual event, dating back to 2008, was geared at boosting understanding and tolerance between both peoples.
Wolf said Hafiz had also left a lasting impact on the global cultural
and literature scene.
Referring to his recent visit to Iran, Wolf called for further promotion of ties between Berlin and Tehran in the wake of the electoral victory of Iranian Hassan Rouhani.
Weimar is also home to a stony chair monument in honor of Goetheand Hafiz.
