Plants send signals as attacked by insects, says Iranian researcher
TEHRAN (ISNA)- Results of an Iranian researcher showed that plants are using electric signals to transfer a message or activating defense genes when attacked by insects.
Plants make electric signals when attacked by insects and they activate defense genes in other parts of their body and are ready for next attacks to minimize the level of loss, said Alireza Mousavi, Iranian researcher at Switzerland Lausanne University.

The researcher also identified genes responsible for electric signals of plants and came up with the fact the genes act as calcium transferring channels and have nerves in synopses which convey an electric message from one nerve to the other one.

Results of the nature have been published in Nature Journal.
