Chairman of Turkmen Assembly hails Iran counterterrorism efforts
Chairman of the Assembly of Turkmenistan Akja Nuberdiyeva has hailed Irans efforts to counter terrorism and drug trafficking in the region.
Nuberdiyeva said in a meeting with Irans Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani that Ashgabat supports the measures taken by the Islamic Republic which benefit the region.

Nuberdiyeva added that Iran and Turkmenistan share similar views with regards to regional and Middle Eastern issues.

Heading a high-ranking politico-parliamentary delegation, Irans Majlis speaker arrived in Turkmenistan on Thursday for an official three-day visit aimed at expanding Tehran-Ashgabat ties.

Larijanis visit comes at the invitation of his Turkmen counterpart, Nurberdiyeva, who visited Tehran in November 2009.

The Turkmen official called for expanding trade, cultural and economic relations with Iran.

Nurberdiyeva added that the joint railway project between Iran and Turkmenistan would soon be inaugurated.

In 2007, Iran, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan signed an agreement to construct the North-South Transnational Corridor.

The rout will link Uzen in Kazakhstan with Gyzylgaya-Bereket-Etrek in Turkmenistan and end at Gorgan city in the Iranian province of Golestan. Then it will be connected to Irans national rail network, making its way to the Persian Gulf ports.

In May, Iran officially inaugurated the segment of the railroad connecting Gorgan to the town of Incheh Borun along the border with Turkmenistan.

Nurberdiyeva also urged Irans participation in Turkmenistans economic projects and said, In addition to increasing relations between the two countries, implementing these projects is of high importance.
