Egypts Muslim Brotherhood says 50 pro-Morsi protesters have been killed in clashes between supporters of ousted president, Mohamed Morsi, and security forces at Ramses Square in the capital Cairo, alone.
In a statement released on Friday, the group said gunships opened fire on Morsi supporters at the square, adding that dozens of people have been also killed in northern cities of the North African country.

However, government authorities say that twenty people have so far been killed in Egypt as the country is rocked by nationwide protests against the violent crackdown. Several policemen are also among the dead.

However, government authorities say twenty people have been so far killed in Egypt as the country is rocked by nationwide protests against the violent crackdown. Several policemen are also among the dead.

The protests have turned violent in Cairo and several more cities including Alexandria, Ismailia and Fayoum.

According to manager of the Fayoum public hospital, Gamal Shuaib, 70 people were injured in clashes in the town.

Meanwhile, interim authorities have allowed police to use live rounds in case of attacks against state buildings.

The deadly police crackdown on Rabaa and Nahda protest camps in Cairo left at least 638 people dead and injured over 4,000 others on Wednesday.

Egypt has plunged into an unrelenting string of violence since General Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, the head of the Egyptian armed forces, announced on July 3 that Morsi was no longer in office.

The country is currently locked down under a month-long curfew and the police have been authorized to use live ammunitions in case of attacks against state buildings.
