Canadas anti-Iran claims do not merit response: Foreign Ministry

Irans Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyyed Abbas Araqchi says Canadas repeated allegations against Iran do not merit a response.
The Canadian foreign minister is so distant from and unaware of Irans developments and the positive global reactions to such developments that his shallow positions do not merit a reaction and response, Araqchi said on Monday.

In reaction to the swearing-in of Irans new President Hassan Rohani on Sunday, Canadas Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird issued a statement, repeating Ottawas previous allegations against Tehran over its nuclear energy program and human rights situation as well as claims of Irans interference in Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and other parts of the Middle East.

The Canadian foreign minister urged the administration of President Rohani to implement concrete actions and meaningful change in Iran.

On September 7, 2012, Canada announced that it was closing its embassy in Iran and asked the Iranian diplomats to leave Canadian soil within five days. It also froze the bank accounts of many Iranian nationals living in Canada and banned money transfers to Iran.

In his Sunday inauguration speech, President Rohani called on the Western governments to use the language of respect vis--vis Tehran and noted that the only way for interaction with Iran is dialog on equal footing, mutual confidence-building, mutual respect and reduction of hostilities.

Irans new president took the oath of office, one day after being endorsed by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

Shortly after Rohanis inauguration ceremony, the White House announced its preparedness to work with Irans new administration on the nuclear issue.

On Monday, the European Union expressed optimism that confidence-building measures would be adopted under Rohanis tenure regarding Tehrans nuclear energy program.

Rohani won Irans June 14 presidential election with 50.7 percent of a total of over 36 million ballots. The voter turnout in the election was 72.7 percent.
