US govt. unaccountable to people, law: Ex-Treasury official

A former US Treasury official says the political system ruling the United States is not accountable to the country's people or its constitution,Press TVreports.
The situation here is deplorable and there is no accountability to the people by the government..., former assistant secretary of the US Treasury, Paul Craig Roberts, told Press TV in an exclusive interview on Tuesday.

He explained that the US political system has taken advantage of presidential declarations to achieve independence of accountability to law, of accountability to the constitution and of accountability to the people.

Roberts denounced the choice of worse and worse American people are faced with in presidential elections, hurling harsh criticism at both Democrats and their rivals in the Republican camp.

It is almost like having to choose between Adolph Hitler and Pol Pot, he said, referring to a former Khmer Rouge leader who killed 2 million Cambodians between 1975 and 1979.

Roberts described the US Republicans as essentially a Nazi party who have no mercy for others, who work to concentrate income and wealth in the top one percent of the income distribution, and hate the US constitution.

He strongly criticized US President Barack Obama, who he said has failed to meet American voters high expectations following years of illegal wars under his predecessor, George W. Bush.

Bush was so awful and Obama spoke so eloquently of human rights and ending Bushs illegal wars that even Republicans voted for Obama in the first election and considering the very high expectations that Americans had for Obama, his approval ratings today are dismal, Roberts noted.

He further described Obama as a tyrant, a liar, a deceiver, a war criminal, a murderer, a servant of the powerful private interest groups, who in order to further enrich these interest groups, has brought more illegal wars to the world.

The former Treasury official also referred to the attempts made by the Obama administration to intimidate South America and Russia for supporting whistleblower Edward Snowden, who revealed the illegal and unconstitutional and universal spying program that Obama is running.

The former contractor of the US National Security Agency (NSA) has been stranded at the transit area of Moscows main international airport over the past month.

The stay has strained the relations between Russia and the United States, which has been trying to return Snowden home to put him on trial for espionage charges.
