Syrian army mops up vast areas of Homs old city

TEHRAN (FNA)- The Syrian army mopped up vast areas of the old city of Homs from foreign-backed militants.

As the conflict between the Syrian army and terrorist groups continues in Homs, the army forces are advancing in Bab Hud neighborhood and have purged al-Masoudia School from the terrorists, al-Alam correspondent Rua al-Ali reported on Wednesday.

The army also found several tunnels used by terrorist militants in Homs.

The army forces have also deployed near Khalid ibn al-Walid mosque in Homs to comb the areas close to the mosque completely.

The foreign-backed militants have fled to al-Sefsafa, Bab al-Sebaa and al-Warsha neighborhoods after receiving heavy losses in al-Khalidiya and Bab Hud, a Syrian army officer said, adding, the terrorists tried to infiltrate into these areas once again, but the army forces managed to kill them.

The Syrian army forces have simultaneously raided terrorists strongholds in Jurat al-Shayyah, al-Hamidiya, al-Qosour and areas in al-Qarabis neighborhood in Homs.

Several terrorists have also been killed during heavy clashes with army forces in al-Hosn, al-Zara and Kfar Laha in Rif Homs.

The conflict in Syria started in March 2011, when sporadic pro-reform protests turned into a massive insurgency following the intervention of western and regional states.

The unrest, which took in terrorist groups from across Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, has transpired as one of the bloodiest conflicts in recent history.
