At least five people have been killed and more than a dozen wounded in two separate bomb explosions in northern Afghanistan.
A bomb went off near a police station in Aqcha District of the northern province of Jowzjan on Thursday, killing two people and wounding 10 others, including Afghan security forces.

Aqcha Police Chief Jawad Jahid said that assailants had planted an explosive device on a rickshaw and detonated it next to a police vehicle.

In the northern province of Kunduz, another bomb explosion killed three people, including a military officer, and wounded four others on the same day.

Afghan security officials said the bomb went off in Bandar-e-Kabul area of Kunduz City during the early hours of Thursday. Security forces immediately cordoned off the site of the explosion and launched an investigation into the incident.

No group has claimed responsibility for the bombings, but Afghan government officials often blame the Taliban militants for such attacks.

Insecurity remains in Afghanistan despite the presence of US-led foreign troops. The United States and its allies invaded the country in 2001 as part of the so-called war on terror.

On July 22, seven Afghan soldiers died and dozens were wounded in two powerful bomb explosions in Khas District of the southern province of Uruzgan.
