Iranian president-elect hopes for expansion of ties with Ukraine

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian President-elect Hassan Rouhani in a message to Ukrainian President Victor Yanukovich expressed the hope that relations between the two countries will further develop during his tenure as Iran's president.


"I welcome the expansion of the relations between Iran and Ukraine and I am completely confident that the all-out bilateral relations will be further reinvigorated in the coming years based on mutual respect and interests," said Rouhani in response to President Yanukovich's message of felicitation sent to him on the occasion of his victory in the June 14 presidential election.

He also wished success and health for Yanukovich and felicity for the Ukrainian nation.

Rouhani won Iran's presidential election last month. From a total number of 36,704,156 ballots cast in the election, Rouhani won 18,613,329 votes.

The Interior Ministry's election headquarters said turnout among the electorate was 72.7 percent.
