An Iranian gas industry official says Khangiran gas refinery in northeastern country produces 50 million cubic meters (mcm) of gas per day, supplying gas to six northern provinces.
Managing Director of Shahid Hasheminejad (Khangiran) Refinery Mohsen Hassani said on Wednesday that the refinery currently supplies natural gas to Khorasan Razavi, Northern Khorasan, Southern Khorasan, Golestan, and Mazandaran provinces as well as parts of Semnan province.

He further stated that the total output of Khangiran refinery has increased from 15.8 bcm in 2008 to 17.19 bcm in 2012.

While Khangiran refinery produced 582,000 tons of sulfur in 2008, its sulfur yield hit 626,000 tons in 2012, Hassani pointed out.

Hassani further noted that the ratio of gas consumed by the refinery to untreated gas received by it has been reduced from 3.6 percent in 2008 to 2.3 percent in 2012 and is expected to further decrease to 1.5 percent next year.

In March, the first phase of the project to cut gas burning in flares at Khangiran refinery got underway.

Head of the Health, Safety and Environment Protection Department at Khangiran Refinery Seyed Esmail Qaderi said the plan will reduce air pollution and save 3.2 mcm of natural gas.
