Deputy FM hails Irans support for Syrian govt, nation

TEHRAN (FNA) Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Hesamoddin Ala appreciated Iran's non-stop support for the Syrian government and nation.

Iranian brothers have made a lot of efforts to support the Syrian nation and government and to supply the basic needs of the Syrian citizens, the Syrian deputy foreign minister told FNA in Damascus on Wednesday.

Ala underlined Irans conspicuous role in support of Syria, specially its "humanitarian aids which have been sent to Syria through the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS).

Iran delivered its third consignment of humanitarian aid, including medicine and medical equipment, to Syria in June. The Iranian medical supplies included 50 ambulances, hospital equipment and medications.

After receiving Iran's consignment, Syrian Health Minister Saad al-Nayef thanked Iran for sending medical assistance to his country, saying, "The help will prevent death of many people suffering from the war."

He said that a dozen Syrian hospitals were in need of ambulances and medical equipment to resume work.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011 with organized attacks by well-armed gangs against Syrian police forces and border guards being reported across the country.

Hundreds of people, including members of the security forces, have been killed, when some protest rallies turned into armed clashes.

The government blames outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorist groups for the deaths, stressing that the unrest is being orchestrated from abroad.

In October 2011, calm was almost restored in the Arab state after President Assad started a reform initiative in the country, but Israel, the US and its Arab allies sought hard to bring the country into chaos through any possible means. Tel Aviv, Washington and some Arab capitals have been staging various plots to topple President Bashar al-Assad, who is well known in the world for his anti-Israeli stances.
