Iranian, Tajik FMs discuss expansion of bilateral relations

Iranian and Tajik foreign ministers have met in Tehran in an effort to further enhance Tehran-Dushanbe relations.
During the Wednesday meeting, Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said Iran and Tajikistan should take advantage of commonalities between the Tajik and Iranian nations in order to bring the two countries closer.
Pointing to the mass participation of the Iranians in the June 14 presidential election, Salehi stated, We hope to see major developments regarding the Islamic Republic of Irans relations with the world, particularly the West, and in the new era, ties with friendly countries like Tajikistan will expanded more than before.
Hassan Rouhani emerged victorious in Iran's June 14 vote, which was marked by an overwhelming 72.7 percent voter turnout, according to Iranian Interior Ministry.

The Iranian diplomat also expressed satisfaction with cooperation between Tehran and Dushanbe in regional and international fields, saying that the enhancement of bilateral ties in energy sector would be in the interest of both nations.

Tajik Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi, for his part, described Irans presidential election as a turning point that manifested the Islamic Republics culture and civilization.

Zarifi further hailed the cooperation between Iran and Tajikistan in political, cultural, economic and commercial fields over the past years, stressing the need for further expansion of Tehran-Dushanbe cooperation in bilateral projects.

According to the Tajik minister, more than 200 Iranian companies are engaged in economic, commercial, industrial and civil projects in Tajikistan.

During the talks, the two sides also exchanged views on the latest developments in the region, including the ongoing crisis in Syria.
