Iran 2-month aluminum output exceeds 59k tons

The Islamic Republic of Iran has produced 59,100 tons of aluminum ingots in the first two months of the current Iranian calendar year, which started on March 21, 2013.
The volume of aluminum ingot production in the country over the Iranian calendar month of Farvardin (March 21-April 20) stood at 29,200 tons, which showed a 3.5-percent growth compared to the corresponding period a year earlier, IRNA reported.

The report added that Iran produced 21,900 tons of alumina powder during the same period. The number showed a 10-percent increase compared to the same period last year.

Iran also produced 29,900 tons of aluminum ingots in the Iranian calendar month of Ordibehesht (April 21-May 21). The figure showed a 3.5-percent growth compared to the last year.

The volume of alumina powder production hit nearly 20,000 tons during the mentioned period, registering a 12.4-percent growth in comparison with the corresponding period last year.

The Islamic Republic of Iran produced over 308,000 tons of aluminum ingots in the first eleven months of the previous Iranian calendar year, which ended on March 20, 2013.

The volume of aluminum ingot production at the countrys three smelters -- Iranian aluminum Company (IRALCO), the Al-Mahdi Aluminum Corporation (AAC), and Hormozal -- hit 308,473 tons during the eleven-month period.

Iran also produced 207,089 tons of alumina powder in the first eleven months of the last Iranian calendar year.

In May 2012, Iranian Deputy Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade Vajihollah Jafari said Irans aluminum output would hit 1.5 million tons by the end of the countrys 20-Year Vision Plan, which runs until March 2025.

He added that the Iranian Mining and Mineral Industries Development and Renovation Organization would implement various projects across Iran to reach the aluminum output target set for this year.

The official noted that Irans ranking in production of aluminum has risen by four steps since 2005 to number 22 in the world.

Jafari also stated that Iran plans to become the worlds 14th leading aluminum producer by the end of the 5th Economic Development Plan, which began in 2010 and ends in 2015.
