Reformist presidential candidate, Mohammad Reza Aref, says his major concern is public welfare as reforms are all about responsibility, accountability and making good on promises.Speaking to a crowd of supporters in the city of Ilam on Thursday, Aref said the reformist camp was formed only for a single purpose, which is meeting the needs of the public.
Aref, a former first vice president, further promised that his administration would create more than 700,000 jobs a year and keep the inflation in check if he is elected president.
The candidate also stated that reformists are capable of putting an end to the current state of affairs in the economy if they win the upcoming vote.
Aref currently faces seven rivals, namely President of the Center for Strategic Research of the Expediency Council Hassan Rohani, Tehran Mayor Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, lawmaker Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili, Secretary of Expediency Council Mohsen Rezaei, former Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Velayati, and former Telecommunications Minister Mohammad Gharazi.
Iranians will go to the polls in the nations 11th presidential election on June 14. Over 66,000 polling stations will be set up across the country. Expatriates will be also able to cast ballots at 285 polling stations that will be set up in their respective countries.
Nearly 50.5 million Iranians are eligible to vote in the upcoming presidential election, with more than 1.6 million first-time voters.
