More hopefuls have signed up to participate in Irans upcoming presidential election on the fourth day of registration for the crucial vote.
Independent candidate, Mohsen Rezaei, who currently serves as the secretary of Iran Expediency Council, signed up on Friday.

Reformist Mohammad-Reza Aref, a former first vice president, and principlist lawmaker Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel, who also served as Majlis speaker from 2004 to 2008, are two other prominent figures among the registered hopefuls.

Other hopefuls that have declared their presidential bids include principlists Alireza Zakani, a veteran MP from Tehran, and Alireza Ali-Ahmadi, who served as education minister during the first tenure of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Former reformist parliamentarian, Akbar Alami, has also joined the competition that has so far seen the registration of over 330 hopefuls.

The top supervisory body, Guardian Council, has already started the vetting process of the hopefuls and a final list of candidates will be out in less than two weeks.

The president of Iran is elected for a four-year term in a national election.
