Syrian parliament speaker due in Iran for talks
Syrian parliament speaker Mohammed Jihad al-Laham will pay an official visit to Iran to hold talks with senior Iranian officials.
Laham will travel to Iran on Monday at the head of a parliamentary delegation for a four-day visit.

During his stay in Tehran, the Syrian lawmaker is scheduled to hold talks with Irans Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili and Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011. Many people, including large numbers of Syrian army and security personnel, have been killed in the violence.

The Syrian government says the chaos is being orchestrated from outside the country, and there are reports that a very large number of the militants are foreign nationals.

Damascus says the West and its regional allies including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey are supporting the militants.
