Iran says political solution only way out of Syrian crisis

Syrian rebelsKUWAIT, Jan 30 (KUNA) -- Iran Wednesday said a political solution was the only way out of the Syrian crisis, thanking His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for hosting a donor conference to help the Syrian refugees, whose number is increasing in neighboring countries.
Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs, Hossein Amir Abdullahian, at a news conference on sidelines of the International Humanitarian Pledging Conference for Syria, said Iran was in contact with the Syrian opposition forces which believed in the political solution for the conflict.

"We think a national dialogue and political understanding is the only way to address the Syrian crisis," he said.

Abdullahian said Iran supported Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad desire to end the conflict.

Iran, since the beginning of the crisis, has been offering USD 200 million worth of humanitarian aid for the Syrian people in and outside their country, like medicine, food and clothes, he said.

Iranian teams are carrying out repairs in the power stations and hospitals damaged by the conflict, he added.

Abdullahian said Iran was ready to continue provision of aid for the Syrian refugees in Lebanon and Jordan.
