TEHRAN, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- Iranian and Russian officials discussed in a meeting in Tehran on the latest developments in Syria and discussed ways to soothe the crisis in the Middle East country, semi-official Fars news agency reported on Wednesday.

The issue was raised here on Tuesday in a meeting with the participation of Chairman of the Iran's Majlis (parliament) National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, Alaeddin Boroujerdi, and Russian Ambassador to Tehran Leon Jagarian, said the report.

"Continued talks and consultations between the two countries can help strengthen stability and tranquillity in the region," Boroujerdi was quoted as saying.

Ambassador Jagarian underlined the importance of talks between Tehran and Moscow on regional events, saying that "Exchange of political and parliamentary delegations will enhance the level of mutual and international cooperation between the two countries."

On Tuesday, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian was quoted by semi- official Mehr news agency as saying that National Syrian Dialogue Meeting will be held in Iran's capital of Tehran next week.

The representatives from Syrian political and ethnic groups, minorities and oppositions, along with the representatives of the Syrian government will participate the meeting, Amir-Abdollahian said.

The meeting's slogan will be "Violence No, Democracy Yes," said the Iranian official.

Iran's call for the meeting came as the Syrian National Coalition for Opposition and Revolutionary Forces was formed Sunday in Doha, Qatar, which was mainly composed of opposition groups outside Syria, but also activists inside the country as well as rebel commanders.

By holding the meeting in Tehran, Iran wants to push for its own agenda which aims at preventing Syrian President Bashar al- Assad's government from being toppled.
