Mehdi Hashemi Rafsanjani plans to return to Iran
Mehdi Hashemi, the son of former Iranian president and head of Iran's Expediency Council Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani plans to return to Iran in near future.

Hashemi, who had been accused of involvement in inciting anti-government riots during the unrest after the June 2009 presidential election in Iran, left the country for the UK and was reportedly studying at Britain's Oxford University. Hashemi has also been accused of embezzling USD 2 million of the assets of the Iranian Fuel Conservation Organization which was previously headed by him.

In 2010, Iran's Judiciary issued a warrant for the arrest and imprisonment of Hashemi upon his arrival in the Islamic Republic. Iran's Judiciary Spokesman Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei said last week that Hashemis case would be addressed after his return to the country.

Hashemis impending return to Iran is coinciding with Ahmadinejads end of term in office. This is while his father, Ayatollah Rafsanjani, supports moderate Principalists in the upcoming presidential election in Iran which will be held in 2013.
